Buying a used car as an expat: how does the Absher ownership transfer work?

Absher's vehicle ownership transfer service lets seller and buyer complete the sale online, with the price held in an intermediate account until the car is delivered, a SAR 150 government transfer fee, and a SAR 230 Absher fee (including VAT) paid by the buyer.

Conditions

• Seller and buyer must both be registered on Absher.
• The price must be between SAR 500 and SAR 1,000,000.
• The vehicle must be private or private transport, with valid registration, technical inspection and insurance.
• There must be no violations against the buyer or the vehicle.
• Absher's conditions limit residents to two private cars of up to 8 seats each.

Fees and cancellation

• Government transfer fee: SAR 150, paid through SADAD.
• Platform fee: SAR 230 including VAT, paid by the buyer and added to the vehicle price.
• The sale can be cancelled at any time before delivery is completed, with a full electronic refund.

Before you pay

1. Inspect the car and check that its registration, inspection and insurance are valid.
2. Make sure there are no violations against the car.
3. Sort out insurance for the car in your name.
4. Confirm delivery on Absher only once you have the car.
